Acne - Overview
Acne is a skin condition that is commonly referred to as 'pimples' or 'zits'. Though it is a skin condition, it probably causes more damage to the patient's psyche than to the skin.
Most people think acne is a disorder of teenagers. However, it can affect people of any age. The condition is not life-threatening, but it can lead to scarring of the skin, and hence, prompt treatment is essential. Homeopathy can combat acne from the roots and provide healthy skin, along with a feeling of general well-being and renewed self-esteem.
What is acne?
Acne is a part of puberty for a large number of people, besides being one of the most common skin diseases. Acne is characterised by pimples on the face, neck, chest, shoulders, back and upper arms, and is seen when the skin pores get clogged due to excess sebum (oil) production.
The condition surfaces at any age, but is more common among teenagers. It affects both sexes equally, but differently. Young men tend to get more severe outbreaks, whereas women tend to have an intermittent pattern, which is usually related to their menstrual cycles.
Acne can be seen as tiny, whitish bumps on the skin (white heads), black dots (blackheads), tiny, painful, red bumps or pus-filled, painful swelling. In a majority of the cases, the condition begins around the age of 10 to 13 years. Certain studies cite that almost 85 to 100% people between the ages of 12 and 17 years have had at least occasional whiteheads, blackheads or pimples.
